I’m hereby
announcing a hiatus from blogging! That is for two reasons:
- - I managed to skip a course and am now on a quite advanced one! That’s good news
considering my goal was to learn as much Chinese as possible this year. It also
means that I have to write essays and prepare presentations every week and
homework increases exponentially.
-
- I certainly still could squish in some time for writing this here and there, but
there’s really not much to write about since I came back (that’s the more
important reason). I could bore you with very profane observations, the weather
has become warmer recently and my favorite club updated its sound system, but
there are so many interesting things to read that I better save all of us from
this waste of time. I'll still be updating this blog if I feel like, but certainly not in a nearly weekly interval as I used to.
The only actually
relevant development during the last weeks and still ongoing is me applying for
internships. Due to my interests ranging from statistics to policy, from
economics to Chinese, I’m pathologically undecisive about where I wanna work.
That results in a scattershot application process, where I select a number of
job offerings and companies that sound good to me but often have completely
different specializations and demands for applicants. In the next step, I see
which of these respond to me and ideally offer me a position, trying to figure
out the working climate and culture in the meantime until typically one of the
opportunities stands out for one reason or another. During this process I would
usually have a minor crisis hating myself for avoiding a clear-cut career path,
but this fades in hindsight as I enjoy trying new things and it didn’t really
harm me yet to not be a 100% dedicated to, say, finance or marketing. Also, how
could life be interesting if you already knew what you’ll be doing 10 years
from now. I like surprises.
